So long HackLolla
As a devloper, I think its time to throw in the towel after this year's competition. It seems a little one sided that we have developers working hard to submit apps, and there is not even a mention on the official Lolla site, no link back or traffic benefits. Nor is there any distinction between apps that one person developed or those developed by a whole team. In trade, Lolla gets tons of free development (minus prize money, which is not much compared to what it would cost to pay for these apps to be developed) and free promo. Getting a prize for most votes is basically going to go to the biggest organization, and also is another way to gain one way benefits for Lolla. Thanks anyway

Hey Pat,
We are sorry that you feel this way. To clarify, the HackLolla contest did have prominent placement on Lollapalooza.com for over one month's time during the duration of the public voting portion of the contest.
Once the contest ended, we removed mentions to make room for the dozens of other messages we have to push out on a daily basis leading up the festival show date.
As originally scheduled, while the winners have already been announced on ChallengePost's website, we will be adding the official winners to our homepage, inclusion in an official e-mail send, as well as a Facebook and Twitter post to announce the contest's completion and it's winners. This has been a part of our messaging plan since the contest's inception.
We apologize for any issues you may have had with the competition, it's rules or it's messaging strategy. If you have any further questions about the contest, please e-mail us at info@lollapalooza.com and we'll be happy to continue the discussion. Thank you.

I concur with Pat.
The biggest misstep I saw was that no official email newsletter was ever sent to the Lollapalooza mailing list during the voting period (the only time I ever saw mention of this contest was upon the launch of it). As a result, all the votes earned by each app were almost entirely a result of each team's efforts to network and advertise the app themselves.
Since this contest only involved one-time voting, it would've made the most sense to encourage the prospective Lolla attendees, clearly the ones who would presumably use these apps, to visit HackLolla and submit their votes in a true "popular choice" fashion.
I say this as someone who has managed to gather the 2nd most number of votes (unofficially) from our very supportive network (which took a lot of hard work in itself). The true spirit of this competition was lost when the prospective Lolla attendees were not directly informed to vote on the apps.
If you're interested in rewarding the hard work that all the other developers have put into their apps for the sake of this contest, I would like to suggest that you also distribute the link to the application gallery when you announce the winners so that the prospective attendees can be informed of the variety of apps that have been made available for them, and possibly use in time for the festival.
Thank you,
Amy
